TIGHTROPE

Spencer Banks and John Savident, I say, John Savident, appear in the compete series of this tense thriller for younger viewers which captures the parania of the cold War.

Martin Clifford lives in a quiet English village and is busy studying for his 'A' levels when he suddenly finds himself at the centre of a dangerous international espionage plot... Created and written by Victor Pemberton, this series was first broadcast in 1972, when it persumably aired in colour if the opening ATV idents are to be believed. Sadly only black and white telerecordings survive and have been used for this release.

I found it quite a comforting series because it didn't take itself too seriously, and I am sure it would have drawn the original target audience into beleiving this sort of thing could happen at any rural school near an airbase. Whilst I didn't remember this particualr series at all, it brought back memories of watching shows as a kid where you tuned in next week to see what was happening to kids just like you, and you wondered if you might be the next one to get involved.

Originally this series was networked on ITV at teatime between the 19th January and the 12th April 1972.

This is a two disc set priced at £19.99 and is exclusive to Network's website.
