THE BILL

:: Series 1

The series is a far cry now form what is once was. Starting as a play, Woodentop (which is included in this set as an extra), it was reformatted into a regular weekly drama series that has became one of ITVs longest running and most popular shows. By releasing the first series (and committed to release the rest of the run as well), Network have enabled us to see how it all began, and hopefully allow the current production staff to reflect on what they have turned the drama into.

In this series the Sun Hill team has to contend with bomb threats, armed robbery and drug raids alongside the more routine demands of working for the Metropolitan Police. Staged at a pace taking into account the challenges and changes experienced by the police services of the day this DVD features some of the drama's favourite characters including DI Galloway (John Salthouse), Sgt Cryer (Eric Richards), PC Carver (Mark Wignett), PC Lidden (Gary Olsen), WPC Ackland (Trudie Goodwin) and Detective Sgt Roach (Tony Scanell).

Priced at £29.99, this set had a total running time of approximately 600 minutes and is enough to keep anyone happy hour after hour.

:: Series 2

The second series of the hugely successful and long runnign drama, The Bill, is released by Network on the 17th October. Before it was re-formatted as the long-running ratings winner it has become today, The Bill began life as three hour-long series. Series two features some of the best-loved characters from the show, including DI Galloway (John Salthouse), Sgt. Cryer (Eric Richard), PC Carver (Mark Wingett), PC Hollis (Jeff Stewart), WPC Ackland (Trudie Goodwin) and Det Sgt Roach (Tony Scannell).

In the second series, officers of Sun Hill have to contend with child abductions and community violence, alongside the more routine demands of policing. Critically acclaimed, this is a programme that has always kept pace with the changes and problems encountered by the modern police force. It has always ensured that it has remained accurate and compelling, and has received much critical acclaim due to its gritty realism.

This series was originally broadcast between 11th November 1985 and 3rd February 1986, contains 12 episodes, with a total running time of around 600 minutes, and is priced £29.99.

:: Competition

Network have been very generous in providing me with a copy to give away, and all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning the complete second series is let me know the answer to the following question:

Which city is the fictional Sun Hill police station to be found?

Due to a type I left the competition running a little longer than anticipated and this just added to the volume of people entering. The answer to the question was London, although most of you were more specific with South London. The winner was K Dhavseer and your prize will be despatched as soon as the post office opens on Monday!
