Harry Rule is an American lone wolf in London, Contessa di Contini is a beautiful British aristocrat abroad, and Paul Buchet is a suave Parisian specialising in gadgetry, and together they are The Protectors. Starring Robert Vaughn, Nyree Dawn Porter and Tony Anholt, this was Gerry Anderson one and only contemporary thriller series running to a whopping 52 episodes. The Protectors are only part of a worldwide secret society comprised of the best agents from the world's best detective agencies whose mission is to protect the innocent and apprehend the guilty. They are not cheap but find employment from individuals, groups, businesses and governments alike, and are faced with a myriad of crime and adventure. This series was unusual in its time as it not only had a high production budget, filming took place in many cities around Europe. It also was one of the few ITC series that were re-commissioned for a second run. Two DVDs covering 16 episodes of the first series will be released by Carlton priced £15.99 each. Two VHS videos are also available priced £9.99. In a departure from their normal course, Carlton have fiddled around with the order of the episodes on the DVDs.
